How To Master Melbourne’s Public Transportation
One of the best things about Melbourne is its extensive public transportation system. The trains, trams, and buses can take you anywhere in Melbourne! But if you’re new to the city, navigating the public transportation system can be tricky. Fear not, here are some tips on how to master Melbourne’s public transportation system.
Buy a Myki Card
Myki card is going to be your new travel buddy! It’s a rechargeable card that you can use to pay for your train, tram, and buses. You can purchase it from Myki machines at train stations, some tram stops, and also 7/11. But, always make sure that it’s topped up before your trip.
Plan your route ahead of time
Make sure you spend a few minutes before you travel to check on your train, tram or bus schedules. Luckily, you can use the PTV journey planner app to plan your journey ahead of time. You can start by putting your starting point and your destination. The app will show you the best route to take, and whether or not you need to make any transfers.
Take advantage of student discounts
The best thing about being a student is all the discounts and offers you can get. And this also includes your Myki card! Make sure to check with your school or the PTV website to find out if you’re eligible for student pass. You can save 50% on your annual Myki card, which is a really good deal!
Stay informed of service changes
You can use your PTV app to stay up-to-date with the service changes. If there is a service disruption or delay, the PTV app will provide information or alternative travel options. This can be annoying sometimes especially if you’re going somewhere important. So it’s important to check for service changes before you travel, so if there is a delay, you can plan on what time you need to leave the house, or think of an alternative solution.
Don’t worry if you struggle with Melbourne’s public transportation systems at first it gets easier the more you use it. Keep practising, and start exploring all Melbourne has to offer!
