How to Balance Privacy and Community Living in Student Accommodation

|

Living in a student accommodation can be a really good experience since you’ll meet new people who you have something in common with. However, when you live so close to other people, it can be pretty stressful and draining. So here is how you balance your own privacy and also social life when living in a student accommodation:

Respect other people and follow the house rules

This might be the most important thing when it comes to living in a shared space. In order for people to respect you, you need to respect them as well. So always make sure that you follow all the house rules. This includes keeping the noise down, cleaning up after ourselves in the common areas, and many more!

Communicate with the people living with you

Communication is really powerful! If you have issues with the people living near you, it’s always good to talk to them about it. Most of the time by communicating you can find the right solution to your issues together! If you tried to communicate with them and it’s not working, go to your property manager, they will know how to handle it.

Take advantage of common spaces and social events

The best thing about living in a student accommodation is the social events! The social events are the best chance for you to meet new people who live in the same building with you. If you just moved to Melbourne, it’s always a good idea to build your connection. Maybe one day you’re going to need their help for something, you never know! This also applies to the common areas. It’s always good to get outside of your room and socialise. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet your new best friend!

Invest in noise cancelling headphones

When you live in student accommodation, it’s pretty hard to make sure that there’s zero noise around. Just in case you really need to focus or sleep during the day, it’s good to invest in noise cancelling headphones. It doesn’t have to be the highest quality, just the average one should be good enough to help you focus.

Although living in student accommodation allows you to meet different people from different cultures, it’s always good to have your own time and space for yourself. So, make sure you find that balance between your own privacy and your social life.
