How to Balance Part-Time Job While Studying

|

Working part-time while studying comes with a huge responsibility with lots of challenges including beating assignment deadlines while coming on time to your shifts, not being able to attend parties to make up extra time for studies and work, along with others. However, carefully planning your schedules makes it possible to balance University and part-time work while leaving room for fun! So, how do we do it?

Plan your schedule

When you have a full-course load and part-time work schedule that may change at any time, it can be easy to lose track of the responsibilities you’re juggling. This is why it is essential to plan your schedule beforehand. Using the calendar app on your phone can also be helpful to visualise your schedule so you won’t miss something important.

Don’t Procrastinate

We know how entertaining Netflix or TikTok can be, especially when you have other responsibilities to attend to. Start your assignments as soon as possible to get them out of the way. When you feel like you need a break, set a timer. Return to work as soon as the timer goes off. Remember, the sooner you complete your work, the sooner you can get to that show you’ve always wanted to watch.

Find a Job with Flexibility

When looking for a part-time job, try to find an employer willing to offer some schedule flexibility. It is crucial to prioritise your school work, whether it’s for an extra class or if you need a little bit more time for your paper. After all, your main responsibility as a student is to study!

Know Your Limits

You have limitless opportunities to work, learn, and make friends when you’re a student. However, having a job can make you miss out on these opportunities. Don’t push yourself by forcing yourself to participate in extracurricular activities or meet up with your friends daily! Prioritise school first; and when your schedule looks better, it’s time to have some fun!

Get Enough Sleep

It’s very common for students to stay up late to finish before a deadline. Although it can give you extra time to perfect your assignments, you shouldn’t make it a habit. Inadequate sleep makes it harder for you to concentrate and can increase stress. It might seem like a waste of time now, but having a break can help you feel more productive and efficient in the long term!
