5 Things to Consider When Looking for Accommodations
Looking for the right accommodation can be very challenging, especially if it’s your first time and searching on your own. Though there are many things to consider, we will take you through the 5 main things that can make or break your whole rental experience.
Location
Location will most likely be the most important factor when looking for a place to live. The best location would depend on your lifestyle and purpose of residency. If you spend most days going to work or Uni, we recommend finding a place that is close to your University or workplace, as it would make your life much easier. Transportation is another factor to think of especially if you don’t drive and will need to use public transport.
Rent & Cost
Renting an accommodation can be expensive, especially in the more desirable suburbs, so it’s important for you to find an accommodation that you can afford. Set a budget and narrow down your options to the ones that meet the budget. Make sure to double check whether the rental price includes bills like utilities and internet, as it can get pretty expensive sometimes.
Size
The size of your accommodation is also a crucial factor, and will depend on your lifestyle. Do you spend most of your time outside at work or Uni? If you aren’t home often, you probably don’t need that much space. But if you like your time at home, inviting friends or family over, then you should opt for a bigger space.
Neighbourhood
Another thing you need to look out for is how safe your neighbourhood is! This might be hard to know especially if you’re not familiar with Melbourne. Best option is to ask your friends or family, or do some research online to find out the crime rates of the neighbourhood you’re interested in. And if you’re a student, it’s always good to look for a neighbourhood that other students frequent, like Monash, or the city.
Public Transportation
Last but not least, you’d want to find a place that is easily accessible, and is close to stations. You wouldn’t want to find a place that is a 30-minute walk from the train station. Can you imagine how far your total travel time will be? The closer you are to the station, the better it will be for you. For more information, feel free to talk to our team!
